The Earth Resources Observation Systems (EROS) Data Center (EDC) is a data management, systems development, and research field center for the U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) National Mapping Division. Organizationally, the USGS is a bureau of the U.S. Department of the Interior. The EDC opened in the early 1970's with a handful of employees and the largest mainframe computer in the State of South Dakota. Today the EDC has approximately 600 government and contractor employees, including employees at its Alaska Field Office in Anchorage, Alaska, and employees at the NASA Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, California. And now the EDC houses one of the largest computer complexes in the Department of the Interior. Products: Aerial maps, Elevation maps, Satellite maps, Land cover maps.
