Brookhaven Center for Translational Neuroimaging
|
Scientists have made great advances in understanding how the brain works at the cellular level. But translating this knowledge to understanding human behavior and treating brain diseases such as drug addiction, eating disorders, attention deficit disorder, and neurodegenerative disorders has lagged behind. Brookhavens Center for Translational Neuroimaging aims to bridge this gap using a network of complementary brain-imaging tools including positron emission tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). These tools are a direct outgrowth of the Department of Energys (DOEs) long-standing investment in basic research in chemistry, physics and nuclear medicine. The ongoing neuroimaging research at Brookhaven is a prime example of how DOEs national laboratories bring together the expertise of chemists, physicists, and medical scientists to address questions of profound significance for society. |
