ChEssBase is a dynamic relational database available online since the summer of 2004. The aim of ChEssBase is to provide taxonomical, biological, ecological and distributional data of all species described from deep-water chemosynthetic ecosystems, as well as images, bibliography and information on the habitats. These habitats include hydrothermal vents, cold seeps, whale carcasses, sunken wood and areas of minimum oxygen that intersect with the continental margin or seamounts. For more information on these ecosystems and their fauna, please visit the ChEss web site: www.soc.soton.ac.uk/chess.

The overall purpose and goal of CLIVAR is to describe and understand climate variability and predictability on seasonal to centennial time-scales, identify the physical processes responsible, including anthropogenic effects, and develop modeling and predictive capabilities where practicable. CLIVAR Data consists of directly observed data, derived data, gridded fields, and other data products generated and/or used within CLIVAR to further its scientific goals. CLIVAR data and related products can be categorized in terms of those that are specifically sponsored or endorsed by the international CLIVAR programme, those generated by other related bodies and programmes such as the World Weather Watch of the WMO, GCOS, JCOMM, and other projects of the WCRP and those generated by relevant national and institutional CLIVAR-related projects and programmes.

This web site is part of a National Science Foundation-sponsored project aimed at expanding knowledge of systematics of the unusually diverse marine gastropod genus Conus. The project goals are to integrate species-level revisionary systematics of the major regional faunas, contribute to molecular-based phylogenetic hypotheses, expand predictive classifications, and promulgate the results in both electronic and print media. Because a taxonomic catalogue is a sine qua non for research in systematics, we initiate this web site with a searchable database comprising a catalogue of all available species-level names proposed in Conus (see Catalogue). When complete, the site will include entries for each valid species, with taxonomic histories, descriptions, morphometrics, range maps, and photographs of type specimens, shells and living animals to illustrate variability in form and color patterns. It will incorporate data from prior and new character sets, including shell and radular tooth morphometry, ecological and developmental attributes, and gene sequences.

The Alternative Fuels Data Center is a vast collection of information on alternative fuels and the vehicles that use them. Alternative fuels described here are those defined by the Energy Policy Act of 1992, including biodiesel, electricity, ethanol, hydrogen, natural gas, and propane. This site has more than 3,000 documents in its database, an interactive fuel station mapping system, current listings of available alternative fuel vehicles, and lots of alternative fuels information and related links.

The DrugBank database is a unique bioinformatics and cheminformatics resource that combines detailed drug (i.e. chemical, pharmacological and pharmaceutical) data with comprehensive drug target (i.e. sequence, structure, and pathway) information. The database contains nearly 4300 drug entries including >1,000 FDA-approved small molecule drugs, 113 FDA-approved biotech (protein/peptide) drugs, 62 nutraceuticals and >3,000 experimental drugs. Additionally, more than 6,000 protein (i.e. drug target) sequences are linked to these drug entries. Each DrugCard entry contains more than 80 data fields with half of the information being devoted to drug/chemical data and the other half devoted to drug target or protein data.

The quantity and detail of geochemical data now available requires the assistance of modern information technology approaches in order to use the data in the most flexible, complete and effective way. This site contains links to three main databases: GEOROC, NAVDAT, and PETDB. GEOROC, NAVDAT and PetDB have produced relational databases that serve geochemical analyses of igneous rocks and minerals together with a wide array of metadata about the samples and the analytical procedure to the broad community of Earth scientists. Collaboration between the three independently developed database efforts has ensured that by sharing the basic data schema employed (Lehnert et al., G3, 2000) the data in the individual databases eventually can be seamlessly integrated through future developments in information management.
