The Ocean Studies Board was established by the National Research Council to advise the federal government on issues of ocean science, engineering, and policy. The Ocean Studies Board explores the science, policies, and infrastructure needed to under stand and protect coastal and marine environments and resources.

Ocean.US was created by the National Oceanographic Partnership Program to coordinate the development of an operational and integrated and sustained ocean observing system (IOOS). Information from this IOOS system will serve national needs for:
Detecting and forecasting oceanic components of climate variability
Facilitating safe and efficient marine operations
Ensuring national security
Managing resources for sustainable use
Preserving and restoring healthy marine ecosystems
Mitigating natural hazards
Ensuring public health

PMEL carries out interdisciplinary scientific investigations in oceanography and atmospheric science. Current PMEL programs focus on open ocean observations in support of long-term monitoring and prediction of the ocean environment on time scales from hours to decades.

Established in 1949, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) in Ewa Beach, Hawaii, provides warnings for teletsunamis to most countries in the Pacific Basin as well as to Hawaii and all other US interests in the Pacific outside of Alaska and the US West Coast. Those areas are served by the West Coast / Alaska Tsunami Warning Center (WC/ATWC) in Palmer, Alaska. PTWC is also the warning center for Hawaii's local and regional tsunamis.

The Partnership for Observation of the Global Oceans is an international network of major oceanographic institutions and their consortia. It has been established to promote and enhance the implementation and integration of global oceanographic activities.

The Pew Center on Global Climate Change was established in 1998 as a non-profit, non-partisan and independent organization. The Center's mission is to provide credible information, straight answers, and innovative solutions in the effort to address global climate change.Working on an issue that is often polarized and politicized, the Pew Center provides a forum for objective research and analysis and for the development of pragmatic policies and solutions. In its first five years, the Pew Center has become a leading voice for sensible action to address the most pressing global environmental problem of the 21st century.

The Pew Institute for Ocean Science is dedicated to conducting, sponsoring, disseminating, and promoting world-class scientific activity aimed at protecting the world's oceans and the species that inhabit them. Established in October of 2003 in partnership with the University of Miami Rosenstiel School for Marine and Atmospheric Science, the Institute is funded by the Pew Charitable Trusts and other philanthropic individuals and organizations.

PIRATA (Pilot Research Moored Array in the Tropical Atlantic) is a project designed by a group of scientists involved in CLIVAR, and is implemented by the group through multi-national cooperation. The purpose of PIRATA is to study ocean-atmosphere interactions in the tropical Atlantic that are relevant to regional climate variability on seasonal, interannual and longer time scales.

The PMEL Tsunami Reseach Program seeks to mitigate tsunami hazards to Hawaii, California, Oregon, Washington and Alaska. Research and development activities focus on and integrated approach to improving tsunami warning and mitigation.

Scripps Institution of Oceanography is one of the oldest, largest, and most important centers for marine science research, graduate training, and public service in the world. Scripps Institution was founded in 1903 as an independent biological research laboratory, which became part of the University of California in 1912. At that time the laboratory was given the Scripps name in recognition of supporters Ellen Browning Scripps and E. W. Scripps. Scripps staff numbers approximately 1,300, including about 90 faculty, nearly 300 other scientists, and some 200 graduate students. The institution's annual expenditures total more than $140 million. Research at Scripps encompasses physical, chemical, biological, geological, and geophysical studies of the oceans. Ongoing investigations include the topography and composition of the ocean bottom, waves and currents, and the flow and interchange of matter between seawater and the ocean bottom or the atmosphere. Scripps's research ships are used in these investigations throughout the world's oceans.

Through close collaboration with key players in the oil and gas industry, the "Scientific and Environmental ROV Partnership using Existing iNdustrial Technology" (SERPENT) project aims to make cutting-edge ROV technology and data more accessible to the world's science community, sharing knowledge and progressing deep-sea research. The programme will interact with science and conservation groups globally and transparently communicate our project to the public to increase the awareness of our fragile marine resources. SERPENT is a global project hosted by the DEEPSEAS group, in the George Deacon Division GDD of the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton (NOCS) with a network of UK and global partners.

The SEACOOS observing system is to be one of the regional systems ringing the U.S. to form the coastal component of the Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS). The SEACOOS domain encompasses the coastal oceans of and off Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina, from head of tide inland to the seaward boundary of the Exclusive Economic Zone.

The Southern California Coastal Ocean Observing System (SCCOOS) aims to provide integrated coastal observation within the Southern California Bight for scientific purposes and the benefit of society.

The Physical Oceanographic Real-Time System (PORTS) is an public information acquisition and dissemination technology developed by the National Ocean Service (NOS) in cooperation with the Greater Tampa Bay Marine Advisory Council. The first permanent, fully integrated, operational PORTS was deployed in Tampa Bay during 1990 and 1991. The system is managed, operated, and maintained by the Greater Tampa Bay Marine Advisory Council-PORTS under a cooperative agreement with NOS and the University of South Florida. Tampa Bay PORTS includes the integration of real-time currents, water levels, winds, wave height, visibility, air and water temperatures, and barometric pressure at multiple locations with a data dissemination system that includes telephone voice response, modem dial-up, dedicated modem displays, and World Wide Web/Internet sites. Tampa Bay PORTS consists of four acoustic Doppler current profilers (ADCPs), four water level gages, six anemometers (wind sensors), an atmospheric temperature and barometric pressure sensor, a directional wave gage, packet radio transmission equipment, a data acquisition system, and an information dissemination system (IDS).
