Welcome to Biotech-Adventures, an educational web site designed to present the factual information regarding biotechnology in a way that will entertain both students and adults. Faculty expertise in teaching biology (Dr. Meredith Hamilton), animal biotechnology (Dr. Rodney Geisert), plant biotechnology (Dr. Jonathan Shaver), wildlife genetics (Dr. Ronald Van Den Bussche), veterinary science (Dr. Jerry Malayer) and human medicine (Dr. Lee Rickords) brings together a unique group of scientists to develop materials for teaching biotechnology. Ms. Mary Lou Sheffer, School of Journalism and Broadcasting, working with undergraduates in video development, allowed the production of accurate and entertaining films depicting real applications of biotechnology today. Educators be certain and look through our teacher resources where you can download the illustrations and technical animations from the site for use in your teaching program. The younger crowd, or just young at heart, will enjoy the entertaining computer animations found in the Hands-on section.

What would happen if gravity were so strong that even light could not escape its pull? The answer to this question is the shocking and amazing object known as the black hole. What is a black hole like? How were they first discovered? How do astronomers know if they're seeing one? Quantum mechanics turns black holes from cold, eternal objects into hot shrinking thermodynamics. Physicists wondered: Is there a microscopic origin for black hole entropy? Find out how and why string theory modifies the spacetime equations of Einstein. Thanks to the string duality revolution of the early nineties, a microscopic derivation for black hole entropy has been discovered, at least in theory.

In our site you will discover facts about our planet, its complex patterns of biomes, plants, and animals, and how climates ultimately determine the biomes of our Earth. This site was created to teach students the power of the Internet as a tool for both communication and learning, and how to use this tool while at the same time express their scientific/environmental knowledge in a fun way. Students have individually researched different attributes of major climate regions (biomes). Topics covered include the various animals and plants of these regions, the climates, and other specific biome characteristics. Our hope is that this site will be up-dated, changed and improved by each succeeding 6th grade class for many years.
