The Believer is an amiable yet rigorous forum for writing about books. It seeks to extend the ever-shortening shelf life of new books (and revives interest in books long overlooked), and stresses the interconnectivity of books to pop culture, politics, art, and music. To that end, the focus of the magazine includes essays on these topics, as well as lengthy interviews with philosophers, upholsterers, geneticists, and other great minds.

The world's oceans were the platform for the first great era of globalization over a century ago. While the 20th century was dominated by exploitation of the land and air, over the next few decades, a convergence of economic, climatological and technological forces will bring the oceans back to the forefront as a new frontier for human activity. From new sources of energy and nutritious food to limitless biodiversity and potential settlement sites the ocean is the last great unexploited frontier on earth. This blog is a window into that future, and seeks to encourage discussion about how humanity can create a future on and in the seas in ways that ensure economic and ecological sustainability.

Chemistry is not a world unto itself. It is woven firmly into the fabric of the rest of the world, and various fields, from literature to archeology, thread their way through the chemist's text.

This site created by Spencer Weart supplements his much shorter book, which tells the history of climate change research as a single connected narrative. Serious readers will find the full history on this site (about 250,000 words). Or see what critics say about the book and then order it from Harvard University Press or Amazon.com.

Do not adjust your screen. Im tweaking the settings to improve readability, functionality, and other fun words that end in lity.
Ive moved all my stuff from my old to my new computer, and Im planning on doing a lot more blogging, and Im working at a mad pace to get my Mindcast shows uploaded. Ive put it off for too long and disappointed my, heh, fans. It is awesome hearing that there are people elsewhere who miss listening to me go on about science into a microphone, and Ive got a whole bunch of wonderful stuff with a spring and summer-load of interviews just waiting to go online. The first is done, available, and took more editing than the next few will, so expect to see a flood of episodes! But thats not the update I really want to talk about here. (more) |
