Nature Network Beta Boston, which we first covered in December, is now Nature Network with the London node soon to be released in March. The features on Nature Network seem to have grown since that last time we last checked in. There are now forums, groups, people homepages, and, of course, blogs.
The geographic-based grouping can be useful for building a cohesive group of people who already share the same geography, but I wonder if Nature Network won't soon outgrow this model as more and more people from around the world trickle in. Regardless, it looks like the baby Nature Network is growing at a healthy clip thanks to careful nurturing by network mama Corie Lok. If you want to join in on the geeky fun you can request a blog, chat in a science forum, or form a group by inviting your science friends and colleagues. Some megagroups are already forming, such as the National Research Staff Association of the UK, which is "aimed at improving the lot of the UK's 36,000 research staff."

I am curious to see what Nature Network becomes, especially since I became a member pretty much the day it went global. There is always the risk of trying to do too much.

"Network mama" here. Maybe I should change the title on my business card.... Thanks for the shoutout!
We're hoping to have a healthy mix of locally based groups and global groups. Some can be local versions/chapters of more international ones. Ideally, we're hoping people will join both local and global groups (eg Boston postdocs and global group of postdocs) and that conversations from one will seed conversations in other groups.
So yes, please check us out!

It is great to see scientists can now boasts of their social networking sites, which would hopefully be used as a tool to improve the global science community. We have also developed a niche site for biotechnology professionals called Biohealthmatics.com, and I am pretty sure that more similar sites are bound to follow.
